New York State Independent College Consortium for Study in India

The New York State Independent College Consortium for Study in India (NYSICCSI) was founded in 1989.  Four colleges - Colgate University, Hamilton College,  Hobart and William Smith Colleges,  and St. Lawrence University - form the Consortium.  NYSICCSI offers a rich and rigorous program designed to introduce college students to the great geographic and cultural diversity of northern India during the fall semester.

As one of the largest democracies in the world, India offers a stimulating and challenging learning environment.  The India program melds direct fieldwork experience and personal reflection with a comprehensive academic program consisting of studies in history, culture, language, art, religion, politics, sociology, and economics.  The end goal is that the NYSICCSI student will return home with a deeply enriched understanding of one of the world's most complicated and vibrant countries.

The program is directed by a faculty director from one of the NYSICCSI colleges, who accompanies the students in India. The faculty director oversees the curriculum, including the content and staffing of the courses taught by Indian nationals. The faculty director is accompanied by an assistant director whose qualifications complement those of the faculty director. The faculty director for the 2011 program is  Professor Sheila Bennett of Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

The program will be on hiatus during the fall of 2012.  However, please return to the website in the fall for information about the 2013 program.
